A denture is a removable dental appliance created to fill the spaces left by missing teeth and surrounding tissue. Dentures can be an important part of keeping the teeth and mouth looking and functioning their best when one or more teeth are missing.
There are two types of dentures – complete and partial. Complete dentures are for patients who are missing all of their teeth, while partial dentures will only replace a few missing teeth. Partial dentures play an important role in preventing other teeth from shifting position in the mouth.
Typically, our patients receive dentures for the following reasons:
- Complete loss of all teeth in an arch
- Partial loss of teeth in an arch
- Enhancing smile and facial tissues
- Improving chewing, speech and digestion
Because your mouth and dental ridges can change or shrink over time, it is possible that you may need a denture reline to ensure that your dentures fit you well and remain contoured to the shape of your mouth. By relining your dentures, you can decrease the rate at which your dental ridges change or shrink.
The benefit of receiving treatment in our office is that we have an in-house laboratory that can help you have your relined dentures completed and ready within one day. You will be able to work one-on-one with our lab technician to make all of the adjustments that are necessary.
