Are You Thinking about Getting Dentures?

Posted .

For those who have lost most or all of their permanent teeth, Drs. Albrecht, Albrecht, and Richards may recommend dentures in Mentor, Ohio. The purpose of dentures is to restore missing teeth and the surrounding tissues. The two types of dentures are complete dentures and partial dentures. Our dental professional may suggest complete dentures if all of the teeth have been lost. Partial dentures may be suggested when some natural teeth remain.

Below are a few commonly asked questions about dentures:

What will my new dentures feel like?
Your dentures may feel a little bit loose or odd for a few weeks while your cheeks and tongue learn to keep them in place. In addition, saliva flow may increase for a time. These issues will go away as your mouth adjusts.

Will I look different with dentures?
Dentures are designed to look like natural teeth, so there will only be a small change in your appearance. Your dentures can even improve the appearance of your smile and fill out your face.

Will eating with dentures be difficult?
It can be a little difficult to eat with dentures at first. To get used to eating with your new dentures, eat soft foods cut into small pieces. Be sure to eat using both sides of your mouth. As you become accustomed to your dentures, add other foods to slowly return to your normal diet. Try to avoid hard or hot foods, as well as sharp-edged bones or shells, as these can damage your dentures.
